Buskerud College
Buskerud College (www.hibu.no)
is Norway's third largest business school and has about 600
business students and offers undergraduate and graduated studies
in business administration. The school has programs in finance,
accounting, marketing, strategy, management and management
information systems. Additionally, the school has 1200 students
involved in other programs (e.g., engineering, computer science,
statistics).
The school employs 30 faculty members in business
administration. In addition to being involved in research, the
professors make significant commitment to local and national
businesses to bring the students close to the experience of
leading companies. Such companies are Hakon Gruppen (grocery
retailing group), Color Line (cruise/ferry), Orkla (consumer
brands), and Kongsberg-Gruppen (defense, aerospace, maritime).
Buskerud College is located in three cities: Kongsberg, Drammen
and Hønefoss. Hønefoss is the center of business administration,
and the city is located 50 km outside Oslo, the capitol of
Norway. The location near Oslo brings the school close to most
large Norwegian companies as well as Oslo's shopping and
entertainment area. The public transportation services between
Hønefoss and Oslo are safe, inexpensive, fast, and frequent –
also at night. Hønefoss is a small Norwegian city of 30.000
citizens, and is surrounded by beautiful nature with easy access
to lakes, beaches, rivers, and mountains. The city has all
necessary infrastructure, shops, banks, public offices, etc.,
and offers the students literally everything within walking
distance.
Amerikabilder
“Amerikabilder. Den norske
Vesterheimen 1860–1960” (Images of America: Norwegians in their
Western Home 1860-1960) is an interesting travel of discovery
through 100 years of Norwegian immigration to America and Canada.
The 320-page large format book consists of the immigrants’
personal pictures, as well as postcards, notes and newspaper
clippings that portrays their new life in America. Most of the 270
carefully selected photos have never been published before. The
unique images were first collected by Steinar Hybertsen and then
Knut Djupedal wrote the text in Norwegian. This rare book is
published by Aschehoug, one of Norway’s largest publishing houses.
Steinar Hybertsen left Hønefoss,
Norway for America in 1973 with a skiing scholarship in his
pocket. He was an amazing cross-country champion. He received a
Bachelors degree in Business Administration in Wyoming, and a
Masters degree in International Marketing in Phoenix in 1979.
Until 1993 he worked for several international companies, but
today he’s a renowned Norwegian-American film producer. During the
last 16 years his company, Shybert Productions has produced
several one-of-a-kind documentaries about Norwegian-Americans. He
resides in Edwards, Colo.
The Norwegian Historical Data Centre

Science at the University of Tromsø (UiTø). Our main aim is to
computerize the Norwegian censuses 1865 onwards together with the
parish registers and other sources from the 18th and 19th

The Norwegian slaveship "Fredensborg"
Fredensborg is the best-documented wreck of a
slave ship from the transatlantic slave trade found to date.
Remains of the cargo and artefacts that were rescued, and
preserved archive material, provide an outstanding picture of
life aboard a European slave ship engaged in the Atlantic
triangular trade.

Cowhorns on Viking helmets
In the pictures from romanticism, we can see vikings with wings on
the helmets. Richard Wagner´s opera, "Der Ring des Nibelungen" was
put on for the first time in 1876 in Bayreuth, Germany. The
costumemaker, professor Carl Emil Doepler, created a few viking
helmets with cowhorn. In matter of fact, he inventet this
type of helmet at that time! So - viking helmets with cowhorns are
only fairytales.
